The Food Studies Conference is pleased to announce the Pre-Conference Tour.

Join fellow conference delegates for this 2-hour walking food tour through the cobblestones of historic Gastown. This tour is a great way to meet fellow delegates before the conference as well as experience the savory tastes, sights, and sounds of eateries and shops of Vancouver's oldest neighborhood.

Laugh and learn about Vancouver's colorful history as you are taken on a tasting adventure to 10 unique restaurants, shops, and pubs. Discover local food and beverage specialties while meeting some of the city's most passionate restaurateurs and merchants. Delight your taste buds with fresh Atlantic lobster mac n' cheese, a handcrafted microbrewery ale, creamy cheesecake, Italian tortellini, Steak and Guinness Pie, beer-battered fish and chips with hand cut fries, homemade chocolates, exotic specialty teas, and a melt-in-your-mouth pastry. Come and tantalize your taste buds and enjoy mouth-watering cuisine on one of the most popular food tours in the city!

Conference Dinner: Brix and Mortar

The Food Studies Conference is pleased to announce the Conference Dinner.

Join other conference delegates and the plenary speakers for an intimate dinner at Brix and Mortar

Brix & Mortar–Yaletown’s dining house is located in a 1912 heritage brick building in the Yaletown neighbourhood of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Locally owned and operated, Brix & Mortar brings together modern Canadian cuisine, a commitment to fine wine, creative cocktails and personalized service in an inviting, sophisticated space to create talk-worthy experiences.

Begin your meal with a delicious starter to share: house baked focaccia bread. The first course options will include local organic greens including English cucumber, radish, seasonal tomato, and tarragon vinaigrett, or tomato & cheese salad including whipped housemade ricotta, shallot red wine vinaigrette, and fry bread. The main course options will include grilled wild BC salmon (crushed baby potatoes, citrus, watercress & summer radish salad, saffron aioli), or free range fraser valley chicken breast (buttermilk mashed potatoes, broccolini, natural pan jus), or seasonal vegetable risotto (chef selected fresh vegetables, grana padano cheese). Finish your meal with vanilla bean panna cotta with fresh fruit compote for dessert. An assortment of wine and beer, along with non-alcoholic beverages, will be offered. Most of these options are gluten-free, and provide a vegetarian option as well. A vegan alternative is available—please select upon booking.

Conference Closing Reception

The Food Studies Conference is pleased to announce the Conference Closing Reception.

Common Ground Research Networks and the Food Studies Conference will be hosting a closing reception at the Donnelley Hospitality Suite. The reception will be held directly following the Closing Session and Awards Ceremony on Friday, 26 October 2018. Join other conference delegates and plenary speakers for drinks, light hor d'oeuvres, and a chance to converse.
