Background

Welcome to the website of the Second Food Studies: An Interdisciplinary Conference. The Conference will be held at the University of Illinois, Champaign, USA from 4-5 October 2012.

The 2012 Food Studies Conference is strategically held in Urbana-Champaign, home of the land-grant University of Illinois and located in the United States’ agricultural heartland.  With access to resources related to cutting-edge research, the full range of agricultural endeavors from large agribusiness to urban farmers’ markets, and a strong base of community advocacy, Champaign Illinois represents an ideal location for the Food Studies community to gather.

The Conference will address a range of critically important issues and themes relating to the Food Studies Conference. Plenary speakers include some of the leading thinkers in these areas, as well as numerous paper, colloquium and workshop presentations.

Participants are invited to submit a proposal for an in-person paper presentation, workshop/interactive session, poster/exhibits session, or a jointly presented colloquium. Parallel sessions are loosely grouped into streams reflecting different perspectives or disciplines. Each stream forms a talking circle, an informal forum for focused discussion of issues and Conference themes.

Participants may choose to submit written papers before or after the Conference for possible publication in the peer reviewed Food Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal. Virtual participants also have the option to submit papers for consideration by the Journal. All registered Conference participants receive a complimentary online subscription to the Journal when registration is finalized. This subscription is valid until one year after the Conference end-date.

Food Studies: An Interdisciplinary Conference

The Food Studies Conference is held annually in different locations around the world. The Inaugural Food Studies: An Interdisciplinary Conference was held at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, Las Vegas NV, USA in 2011.

The Food Studies: An Interdisciplinary Conference is a presenter’s conference, comprised of numerous parallel sessions. The Conference organizing committee is inviting proposals to present in-person paper presentation, workshop/interactive session, poster/exhibits session, or a jointly presented colloquium. These may be:

• Academic or research papers, or
• Presentations describing educational initiatives.

Food Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal

All registered participants (including virtual participants) have the option to submit papers to Food Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal. Papers submitted for publication will be fully refereed through a peer review process. The publication decision is based on the referees’ reports.
